I was reading an article on wired about sexual assaults on preteens. These girls happened to be members of social networking site called myspace used to connect people with similar interests and write online journals for others. My space has entries for huge amount of personal information like Name , address, location and the schools we’ve studied, the places we work etc.

People ( including adults ) fill in lot of detail on online sites such as myspace , xanga etc where one can read their profile , know their name , location and phone numbers as well !

This is a serious thing as we never know whom we will expect online and kids are easy victim to stalkers and predators online who are always looking for gullible victims.

It is wise to tell anyone information about yourself even if you are a seasoned veteran at handline people as you never know whom you would meet online .IM rooms such as yahoo , IRC are other places which can be abused to find victims who are naive. We should be prepared to meet the worst we are online and always trust our instincts.

Filling in personal information in each and every site is not a good idea as we dont know how this information could be used or who will use this information. Reading the privacy policy of a website is must before we fill in any details. Lets hope various governments are watching to protect the innocent from offenders.
